Engineering
Our Engineering team is made up of professionals from around the world. Everyone working for smava has a wealth of experience, is an expert in his field and knows exactly what needs to be done. We are software engineers, not just developers. We work cross-functionally and we write code that impacts the user from the UI to the database. We monitor the impact of our features with user research, full-stack analytics, end to end testing and a holistic approach to measuring the value delivered.

You will encounter highly professional software engineers on the Back-end side (e.g. Java Spring, PostgreSQL, Microservices Docker, AWS) and on the Front-end side (e.g. React, Redux, Webpack, etc.). Topped up with the Software Quality Assurance Team responsible for code quality (manual testing and test automation, Selenium WebDriver/Grid & Jenkins). DevOps team continuously works on improving and automating our platform as well as integrating new features. (Microservices, Docker, AWS). Meanwhile, our Systems Administrators ensure that our employees have reliable modern systems to work with (Windows and Linux Server, OpenVPN, IPSec VPN, SSL-VPN, Wi-Fi, VLAN, LAN, VMWare ESX). Last but not least - Data Engineering works on event-bus architecture and Data Lake (AWS, Kafka).

We work continuously to improve our credit solutions. The focus is always on developing our credit comparison platform even further and to push it to the new level. New features are implemented and existing components improved in close collaboration with our project managers.

Architectural autonomy. At smava, cross-functional teams drive the architecture of their software components. We present ideas to our peers, collaborate on cross-domain projects, and own the technical roadmap of our components. We influence technical changes through architecture review boards, technical deep dives, and prototype demonstrations.

Delivery and monitoring. We have the release button at our desk. At smava, we believe in the philosophy of "You build it, you run it." This means that software engineers not only own the build and release cycle of their components but provide production support and ensure stability to our end users. We enable our developers with tools and processes which let us see the impact of our code in production for the users.

Knowledge sharing. We believe in collaboration; whether hackathons, product/feature demos, guilds, task forces, pair programming, you name it. Having many cross-functional teams, sharing the knowledge gained from one team or one developer is critical to the success of all of our engineers.

Flat structure. Our senior management is paying a great deal of attention to talk to team members on a regular basis and involve the teams in the initiatives that are changing the structure\processes of a department. We define and review our architecture, on-call, and development processes and team structures on a regular basis.

Product
In Product, we design the solutions and features of the future and implement them using flexible principles. Mobility first! The customer is at the heart of all we do (user-centric design). Are you willing to commit to a self-service application of the highest quality? Our goal is to provide everyone with the financing they want and need so that it is the perfect fit, quick, in an uncomplicated and sustainable manner. What is it that will define the best credit platform in the future? These are the central issues being addressed by our product owners and designers! The key features of our work are responsive design for all end devices, fully digital with no media gaps, and flexible collaboration in cross-functional teams. We are following a data-driven course to understand and predict market and customer behaviors using complex data analysis and machine learning algorithms.

Marketing
We are the Marketing Team! We make sure that as many customers as possible find their way to smava and that our brand becomes ever more well known. To accomplish this, we use every imaginable marketing channel as well as performance and brand marketing campaigns. Our goal? Data-driven and innovative marketing. From established marketing channels like TV and radio, we also find new media like displays and social media the best and most efficient approach, while at the same time increasing our brand awareness. We pursue a strong performance based approach in combination with brand measures. For this reason, our Marketing department consists of nine teams. This allows us to steer through every marketing channel with the maximum 'know-how' and to achieve the best results. Because we pursue a data-driven marketing approach, we work closely together with the Analytics team. In addition, there are numerous projects on which we work closely together with departments such as Legal or the Engineering & Product team. We have many experienced colleagues in our Marketing teams, from whom the more inexperienced talents can learn and in turn create their own careers.

Sales
‘We make money cheaper!‘ Our goal is to provide all customers with the best rates on loans, the best service, and the most competent loan advising overall. For us, it is about communicating with the customer and finding the common path with the customer. Performance, honesty and humor are very important to us. (Tobias Wieschendahl, Senior VP Sales)

Everything except cold calling: Our Sales Advisors establish use every different way to establish contact with the steady stream of online customers. All of our advisors have their own pool of customers, and each customer has their own personal contact person, from the application to the loan payout. Customers are advised over the telephone, through e-mail or sms. The daily incentive of our Sales Team: the pull the maximum amount out of each loan application and to get the best possible deal for our customers. Our Representatives Team ensures a smooth process, even when an advisor is on vacation. Incomplete customer data? Not at smava! Our Pre-Sales Agents ensure that customer records are complete, because only with the complete customer information are we able to create attractive loan offers.

On-boarding & Training: New colleagues receive a fundamental introduction to technical, product and system information, as well as communication and sales strategies. Learn from the best in your field! Training is of the utmost importance to us, whether it’s through practice-oriented schooling or an e-learning module.

Analytics
We are the Analytics team. We are cross-departmental and are responsible for all reports and data analysis at smava. We support smava's 'data-driven culture' and the different teams in directing their activities. Our Analytics team is divided into four sub-departments: Marketing Analytics, Web Analytics, Sales Analytics and Business Analytics. Our tech stack is mainly comprised of Tableau, Postgres, BigQuery, Python, Google Analytics 360, Google Tag Manager and Segment.

We work closely with all departments at smava, and have dedicated analysts for most departments. Our analysts enjoy a lot of freedom and independence in their work. We are no fans of micro-managing.

Legal, Risk & Compliance
We are the Legal, Risk & Compliance team. We take care of all legal and regulatory topics, and support our smava teams with operational and strategic decisions, with new partnerships, as well and implementing and monitoring all necessary risk and compliance structures.

We provide our teams with all the necessary legal information to make the best possible decisions for the company. We support the introduction of new products and represent and protect smava's legal interests.

We adopt a general approach, and work closely with and in other teams. We love grappling with complex issues and looking for smart solutions.

Finance
The Finance department is a little bit like the heart and circulatory system of smava. All of the daily business here eventually passes over our desks, and we see to it that the steady flow of money is secured and that everything has been correctly accounted for. To accomplish this, we have a team of specialists who are able to assess the situation very quickly and record this in our systems even quicker.

Customer Success
We are the first point of contact for questions about smava. We make sure that all customers receive an appropriate answer, or are referred to the respective department. Customer satisfaction and a high level of service are the first priority for us, because a satisfied customer is a return customer. Our goal is to provide the service that the customer wants. Our tools are a CRM tool and the headset. We work in a flat hierarchy, where everyone learns from one another and enjoys the work. Through regular team meetings and feedback we remain up-to-date. Because of our contact with all other departments, for example Bank Service, Quality Management and Sales, we are an important point of contact for our customers.

Credit Review & Loan Processing
Bank Services is a team of experts when it comes to loan processing and reviewing loan applications. As the go-between between the bank and the customer and the Credit Advisor, it is our goal to see that as many customers as possible receive a loan payout. We achieve this with early and better follow-up calls, as well as redirecting applications to an alternative bank if a rejection of the loan application is to be expected.

Pre-Sales
We are the Pre-Sales team. Working directly with customers, we make sure that incomplete loan applications are filled-out completely. We want to lead all of our customers through the loan application process with the best and most competent advice possible. Our goal is to support our Credit Advisors in Sales with our preparation work by sending them the loan applications which we have received as incomplete and have worked to complete. Performance Management
We are the Performance Management Team: numbers acrobats and creative thinkers at the same time. We work closely together with the Analytics Department and support our colleagues in Sales & Customer Success with numbers, data and analysis. Besides Excel, reports, KPIs and analysis at work, knitting, paddle boating and witcher are contenders for what we spend our time on. Our vision is to increase productivity in Sales. To do this, we work cross-functionally on different products and provide our Sales & Customer Success the optimal basis to make data driven decisions. We are absolutely team players! Process Management
We are the Process Management team and we are the main contact partner regarding business process management. Together with our stakeholders, we take care adopting, documenting, analyzing, optimizing and automatizing processes within smava.

Our vision is to offer our customers the best possible experience, from the first visit to our website up to the payout of the loan by one of our partner banks, by coordinating, improving, and automating internal processes.

With us in the Process Management team, teamwork plays a very important role – we work a lot with one another, and do so gladly. We also support cross functional work and exchange between many different departments and teams, because only then are we able to completely understand, optimize and design processes, while also creating transparency. Besides motivation and enjoying the work, our working tools are the complete BPM suite from Signavio, and a RPA tool and a workflow engine.

After working for ten years in a bank branch, I started at smava as a credit advisor in 2018, and was working there in advising customers over the phone. I then transferred to Credit Review & Loan Processing, and because was able to put my many years of experience and specialized expertise to good use here, I have been working as a Senior Credit Reviewer since then. What I like about my work is that I am a member of a new team, and that I get to work in a very pleasant atmosphere. I can present every new idea, and the realization and implementation of these occurs much quicker than in a traditional company. With so much energy, smava belongs in a modern metropolis like Berlin.

Besides contact with customers, what I especially love about my job is how the team sticks together. Well, my adventure at smava began in December 2018. I moved from Krakow, Poland to Berlin and started in the Talent Acquisition team as Tech Talent Acquisition Manager, as well as 'Tech Recruiter'. That was the best decision I made before my 30th birthday. What is my job? I have to search for 🔍, find 🎯 and hire the best IT professionals on the market. If you are a #softwareengineer, #devops, #dataengineer or #datascientist – I'm your guy! smava has given me the perfect place to learn new things and has given me the tools that I needed and has constantly supported me in improving in different areas. And so, for example, I work on automating our processes and use my programming knowledge such as JavaScript to do so 💻. #hackerman! I love the feeling of independence and the great amount of trust within the teams – we support one another. My team also helps me improve my German – that is so sweet! In the office: I talk too much, sometimes listen to loud music (sorry team), multi-tasking? No, single-tasking! In my free-time: bicycling, playing the drums, destroying my PS4! Senior Co-operation Manager in Affiliate Marketing
Directly after completing my degree with a major in Marketing, I joined smava as a Junior in the Affiliate Marketing team. Doing so meant leaving my home pastures, the Baltic sea, to move to Berlin. Not only do I really like Berlin, but my duties at smava could hardly be any better. From the very beginning I was involved in both small and large projects, was given responsibility and had direct contact to the partners of the affiliate-partner programs. In a very short time I was given the chance to lead the team and to grow with the new challenges. I am never alone in this: with a great team, and with supervisors who place a lot of value on supporting employees, and who lay out a steep learning curve, I could not imagine the start of my career being any better.

I remember very well how I started at smava back in May 2019 – I really did not know what to expect, as I had never before worked in the loan sector. I was really a complete beginner, but soon understood that it was not what you had on your resume, but what you could, and most importantly, wanted to accomplish. In the last year and a half, I have been able to develop myself so much – both professionally as as well as privately – like in no other job before. It is never boring, but when I do need a change of pace from the daily routine, I get myself involved in a new project. Also the mix of the employees makes every day unique – from the different discussions to the team events we have together. (Moin) Hi, I’m Cihan and have working as a Credit Advisor at smava in Hamburg since 2019. What I like most about my job are the challenging and creative tasks. On the one side, it is necessary to keep the banks and their criteria in mind, on the other to get the customer to visualize the financing concept so that the offer they receive is tailor-made to what they have in mind. In my time at smava, the most important lesson until now has been: Diligence beats talent, if talent is not diligent. I love a challenge, and want to make the impossible possible. I always try to impart this to newcomers in my role as mentor, because supporting one another is a part of being a Credit Advisor! I my free time I like going out with friends, flaming up the grill, or watching Bayern kick some *** on game day.
